The course will be the same as last year. It will start with a 300 yard swim followed by a 10 mile bike ride and finished with an approximately 3.5 mile run. Course descriptions can be found below.
|
Swim
All participants need to figure out their estimated swim time for 300 yards. This is crucial so that everybody will be started next to a swimmer of similar speed to ensure a constant flow in the pool.
This year the swim will swam in a "Zig-Zag" formation. This will allow more people to enter the race and have more people finish at the same time. You will start according to your swim time (fastest first) and at intervals the next swimmer will go. The start will be on the shallow end of the pool and when you reach the other end you will turn around in the same lane and swim back on the other side of the lane. When you hit the wall at the shallow end you will switch lanes by going under the lane rope and repeat until you have swam six laps (300 yards). Once you are done you will exit the pool and WALK to the first transition area. See figure below for more info and feel free to email if you have any questions.

Transition I
After the swim racers will exit the pool by WALKING through the side doors to the transition area and walk their bikes to the street to begin the bike leg. Your time does not stop in between events so a quick transition is important. It is recommended to swim in something that you can bike and run in. Your race number must be visible during the bike and run so pin it to a piece of clothing before you start and put it on after the swim.

Bike
Contestants will exit the transition area onto Bill
McDonald Parkway heading south then turning east toward
sehome village. Right on 32nd Street headed south again,
then right on Donovan Ave. Follow Donovan until 14th Street
where contestants will turn right and encounter their first
hill. Stay on 14th Street headed north until merging with
South State Street contestants will encounter another
moderate hill here. Merge cautiously onto North Forest
Street briefly before turning right on east Laurel Street
climbing a short, steep hill to North Garden Street. Turn
Right headed south on North Garden Street headed back
toward campus. Stay straight on North Garden Street at the
intersection directly below the Viking Union avoiding the
hill, the street turns into South Garden. Follow South
Garden Street through residential areas to 15th Street and turn left. Head up the hill, plateau, and
cautiously descend to the Mill Avenue where you turn left and head east and left again finally on 21st Street which leads contestants back to
the transition area.

Transition II
After the bike leg racers will dismount from their bike and put their bike back in the same place it was before. Racers will then begin the run (or bikers will tag the runner if on a team) by first running up the hill towards the Ridge (West College Drive).

Run
Runners are encouraged to study the course before hand and contact us if any questions arise.
Once runners go up Indian Street and enter campus on High Street they will
take a left on the diagonal brick pathway that goes infront of Old Main.
Take a left after Old Main and go inbetween Old Main and Frazier Hall
which will take you to the base of Sehome Hill. Follow the sidewalk on
the left side of the street and on race day there will be a marker
directing runners to a trail that goes along the base of Sehome. The
trail goes to the edge of Sehome and runners will go to Bill McDonald and
take a right. After Buchanan Towers runners will take another right, go up the street, and finish in front of the Rec. Center.
